Every month, we select inspiring stories from customers and partners from around our area who strive to support our collective commitment and feature them here ### Castle Subaru McHenry Partners with Home of the Sparrow to "Stuff the Subaru"! - Joseph S Castle Subaru McHenry partnered with Home of the Sparrow to host Stuff the Subaru from July 22 through July 26, 2025. The donation drive invited residents from McHenry and nearby communities to contribute clothing, household necessities, and hygiene products for women, children, families, and individuals facing homelessness or housing instability. Community members could bring donations to the dealership or purchase requested items through an Amazon wish list. Every contribution helped Home of the Sparrow continue providing practical support to people working toward safer and more stable housing. Stuff the Subaru Event Details Dates: July 22-26, 2025 Community partner: Home of the Sparrow Requested donations: Clothing, household necessities, and hygiene products Castle Subaru McHenry's Involvement Castle Subaru McHenry organized the donation drive to give local residents a simple way to support Home of the Sparrow. Donations collected during the event included clothing, household items, and personal care products that could be put to use by people in need. Supporters who could not visit the dealership were able to donate through the event's Amazon wish list. This gave more people a chance to participate and helped extend the drive beyond the dealership. Castle Subaru McHenry also provided a $10 Subaru service coupon with each eligible donation as a thank-you to the people who supported the cause. A Community Event at Castle Subaru McHenry The final day of Stuff the Subaru included a live remote hosted by Hannah B. from Free Country Chicago. Visitors could enjoy live music and giveaways while continuing to add donations to the collection. The live broadcast helped bring more attention to Home of the Sparrow and gave local residents another opportunity to learn about the organization's work across Northern Illinois. About Home of the Sparrow Home of the Sparrow is a nonprofit organization serving women, children, families, and individuals who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of losing stable housing. Since 1987, the organization has provided transitional shelter, affordable housing, rapid re-housing programs, and other support services across Northern Illinois. Its programs are designed to help clients address immediate housing needs while working toward long-term stability and independence. A Love Promise Story Rooted in Community Subaru McHenry was proud to host a Subaru Loves the Earth event in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation on May 8 and May 9, 2026. Held in the showroom during normal business hours, the event gave customers and local residents a chance to take home a free tree while taking part in a meaningful community effort centered around sustainability. Over the course of the two-day event, Subaru McHenry gave away 100 free trees. Trees were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies lasted, and no purchase was necessary. Community members were also able to reserve a tree online in just a few minutes before visiting the showroom. Supporting Subaru's Environmental Mission This event was part of Subaru's nationwide Subaru Loves the Earth initiative. Through its partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, Subaru and its participating retailers are helping distribute and plant more than 1.1 million trees across the country. We look forward to continuing to support programs that make a positive difference for our community. ### Warmth in the nick of time! - Jamie M While most in our community are fortunate to have a warm home, a full closet of clothes, winter gear, and plenty of food to choose from, there are many children and families within our McHenry County school systems that do not. School administrators are seeing a rising number of families without these basic needs being met. Some are living in their cars, some couch surfing from house to house, some living in cramped multi-generational homes, and some are even in shelters. A new coat is a luxury that is very much out of reach for these families. Castle Subaru of McHenry partnered with Operation Warm(R), a national nonprofit focused on connecting children with the resources they need to thrive. On January 6, 2026, Castle Subaru of McHenry donated 300 Coats to United Way of Greater McHenry County. These coats were provided to children in Harvard School District 50, Marengo, and CAA Head Start students. Parents expressed their relief and appreciation as it has been a very cold winter. Kids expressed excitement at being able to pick out their colors and have a new coat of their own. The schools each set aside a few coats for emergency purposes and for one child, the timing was absolutely critical. The day after the coats were set aside, it was 2 degrees outside and was about to drop to even more dangerously low temperatures the following days. A second grader came in to school wearing only a thin shirt. When asked about her coat, she shared that she did not own one. That was immediately changed thanks to this incredible donation. Now she can be warm, protected from illness, and feel pride and excitement at upcoming outdoor recesses. At United Way of Greater McHenry County, we are incredibly grateful for the team at Castle Subaru McHenry and to Operation Warm for this gift that is helping so many children in our community. ### Castle Subaru McHenry Helps to Donate 300 Coats! - Joey S Castle Subaru McHenry is proud to participate in Subaru Loves to Help by donating 300 brand-new winter coats through Operation Warm, benefiting United Way of Greater McHenry County. Through United Way of Greater McHenry County's local network, these coats will help children stay warm, show up to school with confidence, and fully participate in everyday life during the coldest months of the year.
